Bookbinding Workshops

Let me guide you through the magical world of bookbinding and share my best tips & tricks with you! We will spend a creative day cutting paper, binding covers and sewing books. That's right: sewing books!

Traditional Bookbinding Techniques

There are many different ways of binding a book. During my bookbinding workshops, I will teach you all kinds of techniques, from the easy-peasy saddle-stitch binding technique to the ancient Japanese stab binding technique. With a few tools and materials, you will learn how to create a geometrical book based on the Origami folding technique, or a multipurpose Accordion book.

Eco-friendly Bookbinding

Did you know that you just need a needle and some thread to bind a notebook? You can make your own diary or bullet journal with less than three bookbinding tools!

In my creative bookbinding workshops you can learn and experiment with ancient crafts and arts like the Japanese stab binding technique. With almost no or barely any use of bookbinding glue, the Japanese binding technique is an eco-friendly alternative for all your book projects, from little journals to wedding photo albums.

Learning by Doing

That's my methodology! We will get our hands dirty in the process and learn from our own mistakes. All my bookbinding workshops are very practical. After a short introduction into the basic bookbinding tools and materials, we will start creating step-by-step and answering all questions right away. After the workshop, you will have the option to contact me via e-mail for extra advice any time you need it!

On- and Offline Workshops

My bookbinding and paper studio is based in Munich, Germany. Most of my bookbinding workshops take place in Munich. However, every now and then I organize workshops in other German cities and also in The Netherlands.

Thanks to the Internet, you can also join one of my online bookbinding workshops from any corner of the earth! Feel free to contact me for a private online class.

Bookbinding Workshops in German, English and Spanish

We learn easier and faster when we learn in our mother-tongue, don't we? I am fluent in German, English and Spanish and can answer all your questions about bookbinding in these languages. So, don't hesitate to join one of my bookbinding workshops in your mother tongue!

Groups and Private Workshops

You deserve time and attention. Therefore all my bookbinding workshops are limited to small groups with up to 8 participants. This way we can answer all your questions about the different bookbinding techniques and you can work at your own pace.

If you prefer, you can also book a private bookbinding workshop: from 1-on-1 on-site bookbinding lessons to online courses, or tailor-made workshops for your family or company event. Contact me here for more information and offers.

You need zero prior experience to join one of my bookbinding workshops. In fact, all the courses and workshops I am currently offering are for beginners.

If you have already joined a bookbinding workshop, but you just want to refresh the technique, you are also more than welcome!

6Do I need special tools or supplies to attend one of your workshops?
Not at all. My (offline) workshops are all-inclusive: so relax and enjoy! You will have access to all my bookbinding supplies during the workshops. 9Is there any parking or public transportation nearby the workshop venue?

My bookbinding and paper studio is located nearby the subway station Poccistraße (U3/U6). Parking on the street in big cities like Munich can be challenging. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee you a parking spot.

10Would I be able to make the same projects at home after the workshop?

I really hope so! The goal of my bookbinding workshops is to inspire you and teach you the basic techniques, so you can keep creating at home.

For some bookbinding projects, you might need special tools and materials, which you can purchase in the Indigo Shop at a discounted rate after the workshop.

Besides, you can always reach me via e-mail in case you have any question or need craft advice, or you can book a 1-on-1 online or offline lesson to refresh or improve the technique.

Mastering the art of bookbinding can take some time and it will definitely be challenging in the beginning, but as they say: Practise makes the master. So keep creating!

11Are the workshops suitable for children and teenagers?
All my regular courses and workshops are made for adults. I organize children workshops from time to time, so please take a look at my workshop calendar or send me an e-mail if you are interested in booking a private workshop for your family. Most of the techniques explained during my bookbinding workshops are suitable for children and teenagers. I would be glad to create a special concept for your private event.
12What are your hygiene and safety measures for workshops during Covid-19 times?
In order to guarantee a healthy workshop environment and avoid any risk of contagion, I will work in small groups of 4 - 6 people (depending on the venue). In addition, these measures will be also taken:
  • distance of at least 1.5 - 2 meters between each participant
  • mandatory use of a mask when not seated at your workshop table
  • all workshop materials and tools will be disinfected and cleaned before and after each workshop
  • you will receive a kit at the beginning of the workshop containing the materials and tools you will need for the projects. These tools will be cleaned and disinfected prior to the workshop, so you can use them safely. If necessary, you will also receive a pair of latex hand-gloves
  • there will be hand sanitizer available: please clean your hands when you enter the venue and every time you reach for objects out of your own workshop table/workshop kit
  • if you are sick or have any symptoms related to Covid-19, I kindly ask you not to attend the workshop. You can give your spot to a friend or contact me regarding a refund or change of date.
  • Please take into consideration that these hygiene and safety measures are subjected to the local regulations, therefore changes may apply. You will be updated via e-mail once you book a workshop.
