Japanese binding is a minimalist bookbinding technique used for centuries to bind journals, books and all kinds of paper documents. Book this 1-on-1 online workshop and make step-by-step your own Japanese book! I will share my best tips & tricks with you, so you can easy-peasy build up your technique.

Be prepared for a wabi-sabi and relaxed moment, where basic tools and materials come together to create magic!

In this 1-on-1 bookbinding online workshop you will learn:

• The basic bookbinding tools and materials, how to use them and take care of them
• How to make sewing templates for Japanese binding
• How to bind a classic 4-holes Yotsume Toji Japanese journal
• How to bind a classic Kangxi Japanese journal

What materials and tools will you need to follow the workshop:

After registration, I will mail you a detailed list of materials and tools you will need for each project, as well as some alternatives you can easily find at home. Here is a list of the basic supplies you should have at home the day of the class (some of them can be purchased here):

• Writing paper (e.g. plain white paper for the inner pages)
• Decorative paper for the covers (e.g. marbled paper or cardstock about 100 gsm thick)
• A bookbinding needle
• Linen or cotton thread, preferably waxed
• Nice-to-have: bookbinding awl, paper folder, cutting mat, ruler, pencil

Date & Time: After registration, I will contact you to make an appointment on a date and hour that suits you best.

Duration: approx. 90 minutes.

Language: By preference, you can book this private online workshop in English, German or Spanish.

Platform: The online workshop takes place via a private Zoom meeting room.
